WP3: Grid integration of PV power plants
The inherent characteristic of photovoltaics is that electricity generation is dependent on sunlight, leading to production only during sunny conditions. The presence of clouds or shade can cause rapid reduction in electricity output, posing challenges for grid stability.
To address this, we will explore the integration of solar power into the existing electricity grid, identifying necessary changes for large-scale deployment, aiming for efficient and reliable operations. Using energy systems modelling, we will analyze the interaction between solar power and the surrounding energy infrastructure, including EV charging, energy storage solutions, other electricity producers, and district heating systems. By developing models, we aim to manage power peaks and optimize grid usage, exploring solar energy's potential to mitigate grid demand spikes. This approach will clarify solar energy's role in a comprehensive energy system, ensuring its benefits are maximized while maintaining grid stability and efficiency.
