WP4: Production and recycling of PV materials

Currently, a substantial amount of material is discarded at various stages of PV module production. In the coming years and decades, numerous solar panels will also reach the end of their operational life.

Reintroducing these materials back into the production cycle could significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and move us closer to a more sustainable, circular economy. To achieve this, it is crucial to manage and control the impurities present in the discarded materials and understand the requirements for their reintegration into high-quality production. We will employ advanced and high-throughput characterization methods to analyze impurities from various scrap materials. Additionally, we will develop techniques to enhance the quality of these materials, ensuring they can be successfully reintroduced into the production process.
